The United States Medical
Licensing Examination or USMLE is a multi-part professional exam.
It consists of three steps; all three must be passed before an
M.D. graduate is eligible to apply for a license to practice
medicine in the United States. International medical school
graduates get their ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign
Medical Graduates) certificate after passing USMLE Step 1, 2CK &
2CS, after this they are able to apply for residency training.
USMLE Step 3 is required for state licensing during residency.
